Because the research would benefit the community, any publications resulting from the study should be made available to local community libraries, offices, and perhaps specific individuals who were instrumental in helping the student conduct his study.

African American males are one such group. They are known for not using psychotherapy because they don’t want to reveal a lot about themselves. Even when they do show up for mental health counseling, the therapist has to go slow in establishing trust and eliciting personal information. Though informed consent and privacy are important issues, the possibility of causing harm to individuals that have been studied is the most serious ethical concern in doing fieldwork in ethnic communities. Harm can take place through the publication of research findings that are damaging to the individuals of an ethnic group by affecting their reputation; it can even put people in danger based on the way published research data is used by others (Hammersley and Atkinson 1995).
