This ebook comprises 30 articles and 3 abstracts of invited talks provided on the moment overseas Workshop on Biologically encouraged methods for complex info know-how (Bio-ADIT 2006) held at Senri existence technology heart, Osaka, Japan, on January 26–27, 2006. Bio-ADIT 2006 follows the s- cess of the ?rst workshop Bio-ADIT 2004, held on the Swiss Federal Institute of expertise, Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in January 2004. The workshop is meant to supply an e?ective discussion board for unique learn ends up in the ?eld of bio-inspired ways to complicated details applied sciences. It additionally serves to foster the relationship among organic paradigms and suggestions to construction the next-generation details platforms. specifically, the purpose of the workshop is to discover and talk about how biologically encouraged ways may also help in - signing the following new release of data platforms which, like their organic opposite numbers, should be in a position to variation, self-organization, replication, and self-repair. The plasticity that is a prerequisite for evolutionary progress at the same time opens a path to continual self-adaptation. The architecture of such a system is a response to the current and past interaction with the environment and does in general not have a fixed organisation. The system structure is in a perpetual state of change while local alterations to sensors and signal processing cascades affect the global behaviour which in turn requires a re-alignment of local structure. This local-global negotiation process replaces the tuning of parameters in a conventional system which is necessarily as much ad hoc as it is a priori.

In examining what is known about nature’s molecular level computing it becomes evident that matter is used in a markedly different way than in conventional computing architectures. Information processing mechanisms are tightly coupled to physiochemical properties of the materials rather than being narrowly constraint to enact a rigid formalism [13]. Rothstein speculated that living matter has a large amount of information coded in its structure and used the term ‘instructions’ for the constraints the system structure imposes on the physicochemical dynamics [14].
